Spain’s defecating Christmas ornaments: from Squid Game to Kamala Harris
Torroella de Montgrí, Spain, Nov 4 (EFE).- Every year a company located in Catalonia, northwestern Spain, creates defecating Christmas figurines that are included in traditional nativity scenes around the country.
The Caganers, which translates as poopers, have become a Christmas staple and a tradition that started as a symbol of economic prosperity represented by a farmer with his trousers down and bottom exposed in a squatting position, a nod to the value of fertilizer.
Since 1992 Caganer.com has been producing a catalog of celebrity defecating figurines. Politicians, actors, singers, sports icons and youtube stars have been sculpted in the comical position.
Marc Alós told Efe that over 40 new characters have been included in this year´s edition, including characters from the blockbuster series Squid Game, soon-to-be Barcelona FC manager Xavi Hernández and anime character Naruto Uzumaki.
Also joining the pooping figurines are James Bond, Indiana Jones, singer Tina Turner and pop art legend Andy Warhol.
The sculptures also focus on different trades and this year pharmacists, pizza makers, city workers and riot police have made the list.
New addition, American vice-president Kamala Harris will drop her pants to join top sellers former US presidents Donald Trump, Barack Obama and footballer Leo Messi.
The figurines are all handmade and according to the company they are not a joke but a tribute to the celebrities and characters that have inspired them. EFE
