Finnish PM tests negative for drugs after leaked party videos

Helsinki, Aug 22 (EFE).- Finland’s prime minister Sanna Marin has tested negative for illegal drugs, the government said in a statement Monday.

The prime minister took a drug test on Friday after videos of her singing and dancing with friends at a private party were leaked to the media, sparking criticism over the young politician and her ability to carry out duties in case of a crisis.

“If there were to be a crisis situation, I would know about it before midnight on a Saturday evening,” the prime minister told reporters on Friday last week.

Marin said she was taking the drug test for her own legal protection after accusations that she had taken illegal drugs at the party.

“I consider these accusations to be very serious and, although I consider the demand for a drug test unjust, for my own legal protection and to clear up any doubts, I have taken a drug test today,” she said.

The 36-year-old became the world’s youngest serving government leader in December 2019.

“I hope that, in the year 2022, it’s accepted that even decision-makers dance, sing and go to parties,” she added. EFE
