Russia denounces Ukrainian strikes on residential area in Makiivka, border regions

Moscow, Jul 5 (EFE).- The Moscow-imposed governor of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, on Wednesday denounced a Ukrainian missile strike against residential areas and a hospital complex in the city of Makiivka, with at least 1 killed and 41 injured.

Meanwhile at least one person was injured in separate Ukrainian drone and artillery attacks against Russia’s border regions of Belgorod and Kursk.

“The enemy attacked residential areas and the hospital complex of the Chervonogvardeysky region of Makeyevka (Makiivka) late in the evening. Most citizens of Makeyevka and Donetsk felt the explosive wave. Twenty-five wounded have been registered by now, including two children,” Pushilin wrote on Telegram, according to Russian state-owned TASS news agency.

However, the mayor of the occupied city, Vladislav Klyucharov, put the number of injured civilians at 41, including two children born between 2009 and 2014.

State broadcaster Rossia-24 said a 61-year old man had been killed in the missile strikes.

Russian authorities said that nine medical facilities had been damaged in the strikes, including the endocrinology center, two clinics, the municipal psychiatric hospital, anti-tuberculosis and drug treatment dispensaries, two out-patient departments and a blood transfusion center.

Klyucharov claimed that 14 buildings, 12 educational institutions, 13 kindergartens, 4 sports centers, 13 social facilities and two fire stations suffered material damage in the missile strikes.

Meanwhile Russian state media reported separately that Ukraine had fired about 170 munitions at different places in the border region of Belgorod and dropped several explosive devices from drones.

“A female civilian was hospitalized, and several houses and cars were damaged,” Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in his Telegram channel.

The woman is a resident of the town of Valuiki, situated about 10 kms from the Ukraine border, where 12 Grad rockets were fired at the residential area, while Russian defense systems downed three incoming targets and one drone, according to state media.

The neighboring Kursk region was also targeted in a Ukrainian strike, though no casualties were reported.

Regional Governor Roman Starovoyt said that 12 shells hit the village of Tyotkino in the Glushkovsky district, and a school had been seriously damaged.
