MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Como parte de su programa de Saturday Series, el Orpheum Theatre Group estará presentando el sábado, 21 de septiembre, a “Kattam and his Tam Tams”. El show, que promete transportar a grandes y chicos al otro lado del mundo para descubrir otras culturas, tendrá lugar en el Halloran Centre (225 S. Main Street, Memphis TN 38103) a las 10 a.m. Las entradas cuestan $15.

Al son de instrumentos como el balafón, la gongoma, el yembé (djembe o tam tam), el derbake (derbouka), el naffar y el dhol, el percusionista Kattam te invita a descubrir África, el Medio Oriente y la India a través del ritmo, la canción y la danza. El objetivo del mismo, tal y como el artista afirmó en un comunicado de prensa -y en la entrevista-, es “fomentar el gusto por la música, el descubrimiento y la autoexpresión entre los niños; lograr que estos niños quieran participar en celebraciones específicas de diferentes culturas y hacer que la música popular y espiritual sea accesible para todos -en última instancia, el objetivo del show es el de enseñar que más allá de las diferencias culturales se encuentra una humanidad compartida”.

“Para mí, jugar con los niños es como hacer también un poco de teatro. Tengo que manejar y entretener al público yo solo, así que es un desafío, es algo que me gusta”, dijo Kattam. “Para que los niños descubran nueva música, nuevas formas de celebrar con bailes culturales y canto, se puede decir que mi show es más como un acto participativo. Hago que los niños canten y bailen, traigo algunos al escenario; tengo algunas preguntas, algunas bromas y también actúo, por supuesto”, agregó.

Según el músico, cuya madre es de Canadá y su padre es de Marruecos, su nuevo espectáculo no es sólo para educar a los niños y sus padres, sino también para celebrar la música. “La música tiene diferentes roles. Se puede usar para disfrutar o para celebrar; también se podría usar cuando se está en una asamblea espiritual o hasta en la meditación. La música puede elevar tu alma”.

Otro aspecto interesante del show es la presencia de un pequeño mono, que no es más que una marioneta. Este monito tan simpático aparece como el mejor amigo de Kattam, y ​​su papel principal es cambiar realmente la dinámica de la función.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — As part of its Saturday Series program, the Orpheum Theatre Group will be presenting “Kattam and his Tam Tams” on Saturday, September 21. “For me playing with kids is like also a bit of theatre. I have to manage the whole crowd by myself, so it’s a challenge, it’s something that I like,” Kattam said. “For the kids to discover new music, new ways to celebrate with cultural dance and singing, we call it like a participatory show. I make the kids sing and dance, I bring some on the stage; I have some questions, some jokes and I perform as well, of course,” he added.

According to the musician, whose mother is from Canada and his father is from Morocco, his new show seeks to educate children and their parents, while celebrating music at the same time. “Music has different roles. It could be used to enjoy; it could be used to celebrate, or it could be used in the spiritual assembly or in meditation. Music can lift up your soul.”

Another interesting aspect of the show is the presence of a little monkey, which is a puppet. As Kattam’s best friend, his main role is to really change the dynamic of the whole performance.
