Harvard tops world university ranking for 21st consecutive year: Shanghai Ranking

Beijing, Aug 15 (EFE).- Harvard university in the United States has retained its top position in the global ranking of best universities for the 21st consecutive year in 2023, as per the Shanghai Ranking published on Tuesday.

According to the 2023 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harvard, Stanford, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology retain their positions in the top three.

All the institutions in the top 10 are from the US, except for England’s Cambridge – in 4th position -, and Oxford at seventh place.

Paris-Saclay University was the top European institution at 15th place while the top Asian institution was Tsinghua University from Beijing at 22.

University of São Paulo, ranked between 101-150, was the top university in Latin America.

The University of Cape Town in South Africa, ranked in the 201-300 range, was found to be the best institution in Africa.

ARWU assesses more than 2,500 universities every year and publishes the list of best 1,000 institutions, based on metrics such as the number of students and staff who win Nobel prizes and Fields medals (Mathematics), the number of articles published in scientific journals and the impact of their research.
