Putin accuses West of economic, technological aggression
Moscow, Sep 7 (EFE).- President Vladimir Putin on Monday accused the West of economic and technological aggression against Russia following a wave of international sanctions over his invasion of Ukraine.
“Russia is coping with the economic, financial and technological aggression of the West,” Putin said at a plenary session at the 7th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, the economic hub of the Russian Far East.
“I’m talking about aggression, there’s no other word for it,” the Russian leader added.
Putin said that the ruble and financial markets had stabilized, inflation was falling and the domestic unemployment rate was at a historic low.
The Russian president said the West’s sanctions frenzy was posing a threat to the entire world through “aggressive attempts to impose a model of behavior on other countries, depriving them of sovereignty and subjugating them to their will.”
“There is nothing unusual about this, this is a policy that has been pursued by the collective West for decades,” he claimed.
As a result of recent developments “irreversible, one might say, tectonic changes” have bolstered nations in the Asia-Pacific region, Putin said.
He accused the European Union of risking the block’s standard of living and socioeconomic stability in favor of a Euro-Atlantic alliance and of propping up a “US dictatorship.”
Putin warned that confidence in the dollar was eroding and nations were turning to other currencies and reducing dollar reserves.
“Before our eyes, confidence in the dollar, euro, and pound sterling as currencies for payments, storing reserves, nominate assets has been lost,” he said.EFE
