Salah scores twice in Liverpool’s 6-0 thrashing of Leeds

Sports Desk, Feb 23 (EFE).- Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane each had a brace Wednesday as Liverpool routed Leeds United 6-0 to put pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

With a sixth straight victory, the Reds improved to 60 points, just 3 behind the reigning champions. Leeds, 15th in the table on 23 points, remain perilously close to the drop zone.

Salah opened the scoring in the 15th minute, converting the penalty after Stuart Dallas was unlucky enough to have the ball strike his arm.

Raphinha’s apparent equalizer for Leeds in the 28th minute was disallowed for a clear offside and Joel Matip extended the hosts’ lead at the half hour with an assist from Salah.

Minutes later, Liverpool demanded a penalty for a Luke Ayling foul against Mane and VAR agreed. Salah stepped to the spot and made it 3-0.

The Egyptian boosted his Premier League scoring total for the season to 19 and looks well on the way to another Golden Boot. His closest competitors for the honor are teammates Diogo Jota (12 goals) and Mane, who had 11 with his double in the final 10 minutes of regulation at Anfield.

Virgil van Dijk added a goal in stoppage time for the Reds.
