Lewandowski says competes with himself not Messi and Cristiano

Berlin, Sep 21 (EFE).- Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski on Tuesday said he aims for self-improvement rather than compare himself to other top players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He made the comments as he picked up the European Golden Shoe award as the continent’s top goalscorer in the 2020/21 season.

“I compete with myself,” the Polish forward said when asked about comparisons drawn between him and the likes of Messi and Ronaldo.

“What the two of them have done is something that may never happen again. But I focus on what I can deliver. That is something that requires work and respect,” he added.

When asked whether or not he will leave Bayern, he said he is focused on the Bavarian club and had no other teams in mind.

“It’s a question I’ve heard for years, but I have nothing in mind. I play against those teams in the Champions League where we can show our level against them. I am 100% with Bayern,” he added.

The 33-year-old scored 41 Bundesliga goals last season, shattering a record set by Gerd Müller. EFE
