Ukraine’s capital suffers multiple explosions by kamikaze drones

Lviv, Ukraine, Oct 17 (EFE).- The Ukrainian capital suffered multiple explosions due to kamikaze drones on Monday, according to the president’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak.

Yermak said the attacks were carried out by Russian soldiers.

“We need more air defense systems and as soon as possible. We have no time for slow actions,” he said on his Telegram account.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschkó said at least two explosions hit the Shevchenkivskyi neighborhood in the center of the capital.

He said a fire broke out in a non-residential structure, and several apartment houses suffered damages.

“All services are on their way to the spot. Details later. The air alert continues. Stay in shelters,” Klitschko said.

The drone attacks come a week after the Ukrainian capital was hit by several Russian missiles that resulted in multiple fatalities.

Kamikaze drones are small, portable and are hard to detect, and can be fired from a distance.

Ukraine says Russia has used Iranian-supplied kamikaze drones in strikes against Ukrainian cities in recent weeks. EFE
