Inter-Liverpool: chance for Salah to rediscover killer instinct

Rome/London, Feb 15 (EFE).- The Champions League last-16 on Wednesday offers Mohamed Salah another chance to shake off his AFCON disappointment when Liverpool take on Inter, who make their first round-of-16 appearance in a decade.

The Egyptian King was within touching distance of his maiden international title before his team fell short at the last hurdle, losing on penalties in the final to a Senegal led by his Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane.

Salah failed to score in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Leicester City last week after coming on at the one-hour mark and in the 1-0 win against Burnley at the weekend, in which he played the full 90.

Coach Jurgen Klopp has all his regular starters at his disposal for the European stage, with goalkeeper Alisson and defender Virgil Van Dijk performing at their best.

This, however, does not apply to Inter Milan, who will have to do without Nicolò Barella, who was sent off in the round-robin clash against Real Madrid.

The Italian midfielder joins the injured Joaquín Correa, Matías Vecino, Robin Gosens and Alessandro Bastoni on the sidelines.

The last time that Inter and Liverpool faced each other was in the 2008 Champions League round of 16 , in a tie that the English team won 3-0 on aggregate. EFE
