Dozens feared dead as severe floods hit South Africa

Johannesburg, Apr 12 (EFE).- Severe flooding in eastern South Africa has killed at least 45 people, officials said Tuesday.

The coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal has been hardest-hit by the flooding, which destroyed houses and left communities stranded.

The death toll around Durban, the most populous city in the province, is estimated to be as high as 45, provincial lawmaker Sipho Hlomuka told Newzroom Afrika TV.

Heavy rain hit the region over the weekend and worsened on Monday. EFE
