Biden arrives in Geneva ahead of Putin summit

Geneva, Jun 15 (EFE).- United States President Joe Biden on Tuesday arrived in the Swiss city of Geneva on the eve of a summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

The US Presidential Air Force One plane landed at Geneva’s Cointrin airport at 16:15 local time (14:15 GMT).

Biden’s convoy, comprised over 30 vehicles, headed to Hotel Intercontinental, located near the airport, which has a long history of hosting Russian-American negotiations.

The summit, scheduled to begin at 11 GMT, is expected to last between four and five hours.

Biden has repeatedly discussed recent tensions borne from “Russian aggression” at G7 and Nato summits held this week ahead of his trip to Geneva.

On Sunday, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken tempered expectations ahead of Biden’s sit down with Putin, warning it will not ease the strained US-Russian relationship overnight.

Blinken said that Biden intends to look for areas where the interests of the two nations coincide and where they can work together. EFE
