Court reopens investigation into 2015 Taliban attack on Spanish embassy in Kabul

Madrid, May 16 (EFE).- A court in Spain has reopened investigations into the 2015 attack on the Spanish embassy in Kabul, in which 10 people died, following fresh evidence pointing to the involvement of two ministers of the Taliban government and a senior intelligence officer.

Judicial sources confirmed to EFE on Tuesday that National Court judge Alejandro Abascal issued an order to reopen the case, closed since 2017, over the right of the affected people “to know the truth.”

The judge’s order came in response to a petition by the Public Prosecutor’s Office following recent police reports that allegedly implicated current senior officials of the Taliban government in the attack.

The latest police information pointed to the involvement of the Taliban government Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, and Chief Spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid, according to El Confidential newspaper.

The interior minister is also the leader of the feared Haqqani network, a Taliban guerrilla group that has been behind much of the violence in Afghanistan. EFE
