UN: 4.17 million Ukrainians have fled country

Geneva, Apr 3 (EFE).- Some 4.17 million Ukrainians have fled their country since the Russian invasion began on 24 February, data from the United Nations Refugee Agency show Sunday.

In recent weeks, the flow of refugees has slightly slowed from over 100,000 a day at the start of the invasion to less than 50,000 a day, according to UN statistics.

Poland hosts 2.42 million refugees, and Romania 635,000 while Hungary has received 380,000 Ukrainians, while 350,000 are in Russia, 300,000 in Slovakia and 12,000 in Belarus, according to the UNHCR.

Over 6.5 million people have been internally displaced, meaning that nearly 11 million Ukrainians, a quarter of the population, have left their homes to flee the violence in what is the worst refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.EFE
