Olive oil traditional stone press in West Bank

Palestinian workers prepare metal plates used to crush olives at a traditional stone press in the Palestinian village of Burqa, near the West Bank city of Nablus, 27 October 2020.

Regional farmers are harvesting their olives this year from 15 October until 15 November. According to figures issued by the United Nations, some 80,000 Palestinian families depend on olive production to earn their livelihoods in plantations which reportedly occupy about 48 per cent of the agricultural land in the West Bank and Gaza strip.

About 93 per cent of the olive harvest is pressed to oil with the rest being used in soap production.
