Britney Spears: ‘I was embarrassed to share what happened to me’

Los Angeles, US, Jun 24 (EFE).- A day after revealing the extent to which a legal conservatorship controls her life and asking a judge to end it, Britney Spears has apologized to fans for “pretending” on social media that everything was okay.

“I apologize for pretending like I’ve been ok the past two years … I did it because of my pride and I was embarrassed to share what happened to me,” said the singer on her Instagram account.

Spears, who in recent years has used Instagram as the only means of contact with her followers, published an image with a quote attributed to Albert Einstein about fairy tales, something that she believes she has been transmitting to the public about her own life.

“I just want to tell you guys a little secret … I believe as people we all want the fairy tale life and by the way I’ve posted … my life seems to look and be pretty amazing,” she wrote.

“I don’t want people to think my life is perfect because IT’S DEFINITELY NOT AT ALL … and if you have read anything about me in the news this week … you obviously really know now it’s not,” she added.

The artist explained that she wanted her profile on her social network to represent “a fun light.”

“Believe it or not pretending that I’m ok has actually helped,” she said.

“I feel like Instagram has helped me have a cool outlet to share my presence … existence … and to simply feel like I matter despite what I was going through and hey it worked.”

Spears asked a Los Angeles judge on Wednesday to end the legal guardianship by which her father has controlled her life for 13 years, saying it is “abusive.”

“I’ve lied and told the whole world ‘I’m okay. And I’m happy.’ It’s a lie. I thought I just maybe [have] said that enough. Because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized,” she said via phone. “I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry. It’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

“I just want my life back,” implored the star.

Judge Brenda Penny thanked Spears for her testimony, which she described as courageous, and agreed with the different parties involved for a new hearing, the date of which is yet to be determined. EFE
