Palestinian teenager dies in West Bank clashes with Israeli soldiers

Jerusalem, July 27 (EFE).- A 14-year-old Palestinian boy was hot dead in clashes during a raid by the Israeli army in the West Bank city of Qalqilya, Palestinian officials said on Thursday.

The Palestinian health ministry identified the deceased teenager as Fares Abu Samra.

According to a ministry spokesperson, the boy was critically wounded and taken to a hospital in the city after he received a gunshot wound in the head.

He succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the hospital.

Official Palestinian news agency Wafa said the clashes occurred during an Israeli military raid in the city.

The Israeli soldiers opened fire on the protesting youth.

Asked by EFE about the incident, the Israeli army said soldiers were conduction a “counter-terrorism” operation in Qalqilya, when rioters threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the forces.

The soldiers responded with warning shots to disperse the rioters.

“The incident is being investigated,” a military spokesperson said.

The Palestinian foreign ministry described the incident as “a crime against humanity” and “an expression of the declining moral level in the Israeli army.”

They said, “The lack of international protection for the Palestinian people encourages the (Israeli) occupation to continue committing crimes.”

The death of Abu Samra follows the killing of a 23-year-old Palestinian on Wednesday during clashes triggered by an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank.

On Tuesday, three suspected Palestinian militants were killed in an Israeli fire after they allegedly attacked a group of soldiers in Nablus city, a stronghold of Palestinian militias in the north of the West Bank.

This year has been the deadliest in the West Bank since the end of the Second Intifada, a Palestinian uprising between 2000 and 2005.

Some 168 Palestinians, including 29 minors, have been killed in conflict this year.

Most of the dead have been identified as militants who lost their lives in armed confrontations with Israeli troops.

The region has witnessed the rise of new Palestinian armed groups. They frequently carry out attacks that have caused 27 Israeli deaths, most of them settlers. EFE
