Thousands call for terror listing of Iran’s Guards in Paris rally

Paris, Feb 12 (EFE).- Thousands took the streets of Paris on Sunday to show their support for the protests that have gripped Iran and called on the European Union to list Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a “terror” group.

The march was organized by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (CNRI), led by Maryam Rajavi, after monthslong protests in Iran which have been quashed by a violent crackdown.

According to organizers 10,000 people, many of them Iranians in exile, took part with several keynote speakers at the march, including former speaker of the United Kingdom’s house of commons, John Bercow, former Belgian prime minister, Guy Verhofstadt, environmentalist and presidential candidate in Colombia’s May elections, Ingrid Betancourt.

Demonstrators demanded freedom, democracy and equality between men and women in Iran which has seen its largest protests in decades following the September death in police custody of Mahsa Amini.

In a message that was read to those gathered at the starting point of the march, Rajavi said “This is no time to cultivate constructive relationships with a regime that perpetuates atrocities through executions and massacres.”

“Instead, it is imperative to extend sincere apologies to the people of Iran for past support of religious tyranny,” she added

Massud Kiani, representative to the EU of the Free Union of Iranian Workers (FUIW), told Efe that this march was aimed showing “support for the Iranian people in their fight for democracy and freedom” and to “tell the world that the Iranian people want a regime change, democracy, human rights like everyone else here in Europe.”

The demonstration came a day after Iran marked the 44th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution.EFE
