Argentina’s Messi proud to share most-capped mark with Mascherano

Buenos Aires, Jun 22 (EFE).- Lionel Messi said Tuesday that he was gratified to become Argentina’s joint-most-capped player alongside the retired Javier Mascherano.

“Another important victory to continue growing. I am proud to have been able to wear the sky blue and white shirt as many times as my friend Masche, whom I love so much, I always respected and admired,” Messi said on Instagram the day after his 147th appearance for Argentina in a 1-0 win against Paraguay in the Copa America.

Mascherano also took to hail Messi’s latest milestone.

“Congratulations Leo for having reached the record appearances for Argentina. Nobody better than you to continue growing the legend and be the player with the most appearances in our National Team,”  Messi’s former teammate with Argentina and FC Barcelona wrote  Congratulations to the whole team for the victory and many more!”

The Argentine soccer federation and many current and former national team players likewise offered congratulations.

Messi is Argentina’s all-time top scorer with 73 goals, while he has bagged 43 assists. EFE
