Zelenskyy calls for global rallies to mark 1 month since Russian invasion

International Desk, Mar 24 (EFE).- Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday called for a show of global unity against the war in his country with rallies beginning on the one-month anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

“It’s already a month of our defense against the attempt to destroy us. Wipe us off the face of the earth. The original plan of the Russian troops failed,” said the leader in the early morning of the one-month anniversary of the Russian invasion.

He spoke in Ukranian, Russian and English outside on what looked to be a courtyard or street, wearing his usual olive green tracksuit and under guard, in a video posted to his Telegram.

After listing the atrocities and “acts of terror” that Russian troops have carried out on the civilian population, the president said that Russia’s war is much more than just a war against Ukraine: “Russia is trying defeat the freedom of all people in Europe. Of all the people in the world.”

“One month already. That long. It breaks my heart, hearts of all Ukranians and every free person on the planet,” Zelenskyy said.

“That’s why I ask you to stand against the war, starting from March 24 – exactly one month after the Russian invasion (…) From this day and after then, show your standing. Come from your offices, your homes, your schools and your universities. Come in the name of peace (…) come to your squares and streets. Make yourselves visible and heard (…) All as one together who want to stop the war,” he said.

“This is a war for independence, and we must win,” and each city that “heroically resists” will be rebuilt, he continued, assuring that “we will bring the invaders to justice for every crime” they commit.

“Ukraine has never threatened the security of Russia,” he said addressing Russians in Russian, before noting that on Thursday three summits (NATO, European Union and the G7) on Ukraine are being held in Brussels and “will show how they support us.”

“We are all free people of the free world (…) By all our actions, we must force Russia to seek peace,” stressed Urkaine’s ruler. EFE
