At least four injured in US shooting outside baseball game

Washington DC, Jul 17 (EFE).- At least four people were wounded on Saturday in Washington DC in a shooting outside the Nationals Park where a baseball game between the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres was in progress, the police informed.

The game had to be suspended after loud bangs were heard inside the stadium, while videos shot by fans showed people running for cover.

In a series of tweets, the DC Police Department confirmed that two people had been shot outside the park and two additional victims walked into local hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds.

The police, which is investigating the incident, said that “there is no ongoing threat at this time.”

Videos posted on social media showed players leaving the field and spectators trying to take cover after hearing multiple gunshots.

Local media reported that some fans tried to run towards the field in panic but were sent back to the stands by security guards.

In the beginning the screens installed in the stadium urged fans to remain inside the stadium, and they were asked to leave only after it was deemed safe.

The Washington Nationals also confirmed the shooting on Twitter, and urged fans to exit the park from two designated gates.

The stadium was completely vacant by 10.20 pm.

In a statement, the Nationals said that the game will resume on Sunday on 1 pm before a regular scheduled game.
