Gunman with criminal record kills 3 in central Paris

(Update 1: Adds detail)

Paris, Dec 23 (EFE).- At least three people were killed and a fourth was seriously injured after a gunman opened fire outside a Kurdish cultural center in central Paris Friday, authorities said.

The suspect, a 69-year-old with a track record of racist acts, has been detained and taken to hospital after suffering mild injuries during his arrest, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccau reported.

Two other people were lightly injured in the attack.

The shooting took place in the French capital’s 10th arrondissement.

Beccau said the suspect had a criminal record and had recently been provisionally released from prison having served time for using a sword to attack tents being used by migrants in Paris.

“The motive of racism forms part of the investigations,” the prosecutor told reporters. EFE
