Woman injured in West Bank shooting that killed both daughters dies

Jerusalem, Apr 10 (EFE).- A British-Israeli woman who was shot while driving with her two daughters in the West Bank last week died on Monday, the Jerusalem hospital where she was being treated said.

“We are saddened to announce the death of Lucy Dee,” Hadassah Hospital said in a statement.

Friday’s attack took place on a road near the West Bank town of Hamra, where suspected Palestinian assailants shot at the vehicle Dee and her two daughters, Maia and Rina, who were residents of the Jewish settlement of Efrat, were traveling in.

The assailants escaped and have not been apprehended by Israeli security forces.

Following the confirmation of Dee’s death, Shlomo Neman, chairman of the umbrella council for all settlements in the occupied West Bank, urged the government to “restore security and punish those responsible for this murderous and barbaric terrorism”.

Friday’s attack was followed by another incident in Tel Aviv, in which an Arab citizen of Israel killed a 36-year-old Italian tourist in an allegedly intentional car-ramming.

Earlier on Monday, a 15-year-old Palestinian teenager died during clashes sparked by an Israeli military raid on a West Bank refugee camp.

According to an army spokesman, its troops fired on “suspects who opened fire on them, threw explosive devices and Molotov cocktails”.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has become particularly bloody in the past year, with an increase in Israeli army raids on West Bank territory and an increase in attacks by Palestinians, as well as assaults by Israeli settlers.

The first months of this year have been the most violent in the conflict since 2000. Since the beginning of 2023, 96 Palestinians and Arab-Israelis have been killed in violent incidents with Israel and 19 people on the Israeli side have been killed in attacks.

The escalation has even spilled over to other fronts: in recent days there have been violent clashes between Israeli forces and Muslim worshippers at the holy Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, and there have been exchanges of fire between Israel and Palestinian militias in the Gaza Strip, Syria and Lebanon.
