Chanel marks 100 years of its iconic No.5 fragrance

Paris, Jun 29 (EFE).- French luxury brand Chanel celebrates Tuesday 100 years of its iconic Chanel No.5 fragrance, the best-selling perfume in history.

Created in 1921 by ‘Coco’ Chanel and French-Russian perfumer Ernest Beaux, the fragrance became more than just a perfume.

No. 5 became a symbol of desire, success and a cultural phenomenon worn by Hollywood stars, featured in movies and displayed at museums.

To celebrate its centenary, the luxury brand is launching a new beauty collection which will be sold in eight pop-up stores in fashion capitals including Paris, London, Seoul and Hong Kong, among others.

The colorful but industrial style of the stores bring to life the original avant-garde spirit of the fragrance conceived by Coco, who designed the perfume as an experiment in a laboratory.

The packaging of the 17 new beauty products also reflect the industrial and functional look of the very first No.5, which was sold in an ordinary lab jar as an everyday product.

Chanel was a pioneer in expanding its luxury brand with beauty products and led the way for other fashion designers like Jeanne Lanvin and Jean Patou.EFE
