AC/DC announces reunion 40 years after ‘Back in Black’

Los Angeles, US, Sep 30 (efe-epa).- After weeks of teasing on their social media channels, Australian rock band AC/DC confirmed Wednesday that they are returning to music with a mostly original line-up.

A series of short videos posted to their social media feeds had shown their signature red lightning bolt flickering back to life, until a photo of the line-up came Wednesday.

“Are you ready? #PWRUP,” the band posted alongside a photo of the new composition of the band with its original members: vocalist Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams, plus Angus Young and Stevie Young on guitars.

It has not been announced what exactly #PWRUP will be, but many foresee it to be a new album.

The reunion seemed impossible just a few years ago.

In 2015, drummer Rudd pleaded guilty in New Zealand to drug possession and threatening to kill, which kept him out of the band’s 2016 Rock or Bust Tour, which Johnson left due to hearing problems (he was replaced by Axl Rose from Guns ‘N’ Roses on various dates).

After the tour, Williams announced his retirement, and then in 2017 guitarist and group founder Malcolm Young died with dementia.

With the exception of Young (now replaced by his nephew Stevie), anything to be released by AC/DC will be their first original compositions since the 2014 album “Rock or Bust.”

The announcement comes 40 years after the release of their most successful album “Back in Black,” but some media point out the new music release could coincide with the date Young died – on Nov. 18, 2016 – as a tribute to him.

Born in the Scottish city of Glasgow in 1953, Young emigrated aged 10 to Australia with part of his family and it was in the city of Sydney where a decade later he founded AC/DC with his brother Angus.

Since then, AC/DC has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, including 71.5 million copies in the United States alone, and has been one of the most popular bands on the planet. EFE-EPA
