Situation in Donbas ‘extremely difficult’: Zelenskyy

Kyiv, May 22 (EFE).- Russia is stepping up its assault in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine and is trying to advance on Slovyansk and Severodonetsk, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the General Staff of the Armed Forces in Kyiv reported Sunday.

“The situation in the Donbas is extremely difficult,” Zelenskyy said in his daily video message.

“As in previous days, the Russian army is trying to attack Slovyansk and Severodonetsk,” he said, and that Ukraine’s armed forces “are deterring this offensive.”

“Every day that our defenders take away from these offensive plans of Russia, disrupting them, is a concrete contribution to the approach of the main day. The desired day that we are all looking forward to and fighting for. Victory Day,” he said.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said “the enemy does not stop the offensive actions in the Eastern Operation Zone,”

On the road to Donetsk, Russian forces are trying to break through the Ukrainian lines to “reach the administrative borders of the Luhansk region”. EFE
