Taliban officials hold talks with international community in Olso

Copenhagen, Jan 23 (EFE).- A high-level Taliban government delegation on Sunday began three days of meetings with representatives of the international community in Oslo to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

The Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi leads the delegation that arrived in the Norwegian capital on Saturday evening in what was the first official European visit by the Islamic Emirate, as the Taliban refer to their Afghan government, since it swept to power in August last year.

Taliban delegates are set to meet with officials from Norway, the United States, the European Union and Afghan civil groups.

The meeting will take place behind closed doors at an Oslo hotel and no press conferences are expected to take place, the Norwegian foreign ministry said.

Muttaqi said in a video message published by Afghan media that the talks could open a new chapter of relations with European nations.

The Islamists are also due to hold discussions with the US on frozen assets, being removed from the blacklist and future relations.

The Taliban government accuses the international community of fueling the humanitarian crisis in the country by suspending foreign aid. EFE
