Putin sets out new red lines in strategic seas by approving naval doctrine

Moscow, Jul 31 (EFE).- Russia’s president Vladimir Putin on Sunday set out new red lines for the West in the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Arctic Sea as he signed a new naval doctrine amid Moscow war in Ukraine.

“We have openly marked the borders and areas of Russia’s national interests, both economic and strategic, which are vital,” Putin said in a speech on the occasion of Russia’s Navy Day.

“Mainly, it concerns our Arctic zone, the waters of the Black, Okhotsk and Bering seas, and the Baltic and Kuril Strait,” he added during the event held in St Petersburg.

“We will guarantee their defense firmly and by all means,” he added.

The Russian navy will receive the new Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missiles “in the coming months,” he said.

“The first ship equipped with this mighty weapon will be the frigate Admiral Gorshkov,” he said. It will be deployed “in accordance with the interest of maintaining Russia’s security.”

The signing ceremony of the new doctrine took place in St. Petersburg’s Peter and Paul fortress after Putin began the naval parade in the former tsarist capital and the island of Kronstadt.

Over 40 ships, submarines and boats, 42 planes and more than 3,500 soldiers participate in Sunday’s naval parade, with similar events held in other ports, according to the Kremlin. EFE
