Memphis Drive-Thru Restaurant Serves Hundreds of Free Burgers to Furloughed Federal Employees
MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/FOX 13) — Un restaurante de Orange Mound está ayudando a empleados del gobierno que están sin trabajar.
Smacker’s, un drive-thru de propiedad familiar, sirvió cientos de hamburguesas gratuitas a los afectados por el cierre del gobierno.
Se llaman a sí mismos un “pequeño lugar con un gran sabor”.
“Siento que estamos contribuyendo con algo para alguien, así que vale la pena”, dijo Kevin Jamerson, el propietario.
Una publicación en las redes sociales sobre el sorteo llevó a un largo día mientras los autos se alineaban fuera del pequeño drive-thru.
Pero Jamerson dijo que estaban listos.
“Es pequeño, pero es muy limpio y profesional. “Lo hemos configurado correctamente, para que podamos hacer el trabajo de la manera correcta”, dijo Jamerson.
Sin un final para el cierre a la vista, muchas personas que asistieron dijeron que estaban frustradas.
El personal sirvió cientos de hamburguesas y pollo a los empleados federales con licencia.
Si bien eso no pondrá fin al cierre, los empleados dijeron que están contentos de que al menos podrían hacer un día un poco más fácil.
Y el personal dijo que están considerando seriamente volver a hacerlo.

MEMPHIS, TN (FOX 13) — An Orange Mound restaurant is stepping up to help furloughed government employees.
Smacker’s, a family-owned drive-thru, served up hundreds of free burgers to those affected by the government shutdown.
They call themselves a “small place with a big taste.”
“I feel like we’re contributing to something to somebody, so it’s worth it,” said Kevin Jamerson, the owner.
A post on social media about the giveaway led to a long day as cars lined up outside the small drive-thru.
But Jamerson said they were ready.
“It’s small, but it’s very clean and professional. We got it set up just right, so we can get the job done the right way,” Jamerson said.
With no end to the shutdown in sight, many people who attended said they are frustrated.
The staff served hundreds of burgers and chicken to the furloughed employees.
While that won’t put an end to the shutdown, employees said they are happy they could at least make one day a little easier.
And the staff said they’re strongly considering doing it again.
