Israeli police kill Palestinian during search operation in East Jerusalem
Jerusalem, Aug 15 (EFE).- Police said on Monday that Israeli troops killed a Palestinian man during an overnight search operation at his house in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Kafr Aqab.
A police spokesperson said the security forces opened fire on the man after he reportedly attempted to knife the officers from an undercover team of border cops searching his residence for illicit firearms.
“As the soldiers closed in on the target, the family members came out and began to confront the soldiers when suddenly the suspect came out holding a knife and tried to stab the soldiers who responded with gunfire – and took him down,” the spokesperson said.
The Palestinian media identified the victim as Muhammad Ibrahim Shaham, 21.
The media alleged that Shaham was shot at from a close range by the Israeli armed forces after breaking into his family home.
According to the police spokesperson, the police unit’s paramedic team treated the victim on the scene.
He was evacuated to a mobile military clinic, where he was pronounced dead.
Police did not say whether weapons were found in the house of the deceased.
The killing came a day after a Palestinian from the Silwan neighborhood in the occupied half of the city allegedly opened fire and injured seven people.
The attacker turned himself in hours after the shooting, in which six US citizens from the ultra-Orthodox community were injured.
The Israeli army carried out several raids in the occupied West Bank in which 19 Palestinians were detained and homemade weapons allegedly seized from them. EFE
