Russia targets Kyiv with drones again, critical infra damaged

Lviv, Ukraine, Dec 19 (EFE).- The Russian army conducted more drone assaults on Kyiv on Monday morning, only hours after local authorities restored the power and heat supply that had been disrupted in earlier strikes.

According to Serhiy Popko, the chief of the Kyiv City Military Administration, air defense forces shot down around 15 Iranian-made Shahed drones during the air raid on Kyiv.

“The capital withstood several waves of Iranian-made Shahed attacks. More than 20 enemy drones were detected in Kyiv’s airspace. Air defense forces have destroyed about 15,” Popko said.

He said a critical infrastructure facility in the city had taken a hit.

“Emergency services are dealing with the aftermath. Any information on casualties and destruction is being confirmed,” Popko said.

According to the military command, Russia attacked Kyiv in two phases, an initial one that lasted about three hours and a later one that lasted 25 minutes.

The authorities have urged people to remain in their shelters until the anti-aircraft alerts stopped.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed several explosions in the Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts of the region, noting that all emergency services were already working in the affected places.

The mayor said there were no casualties.

“According to preliminary information, there are no casualties in Kyiv. Medics and rescue workers are still working at the scene of the strikes,” Klitschko said.

Klitschko Sunday that the administration had restored the heating system across the city after the Russian bombardments destroyed the city’s vital infrastructure. EFE
