Russia’s foreign minister arrives in North Korea

Moscow, Oct 18 (EFE).- Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday ahead of a meeting with his North Korean counterpart, Choe Son-hui, Russian state television reported.

The head of Russian diplomacy arrived in the North Korean capital from Beijing, where he participated in the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

It is Lavrov’s fourth visit to Pyongyang and follows the September summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and the creation of working groups to manage relations between both countries to “a new level” in all fields.

Although the details of that summit held in Russia’s Far East have not been made public, Moscow assured that it provided space for military and space cooperation between the two countries.

According to media outlets such as the New York Times, Kim could have agreed to support Moscow’s war in Ukraine with anti-tank missiles and artillery ammunition in exchange for food aid and satellite and nuclear-powered submarine technology, which Washington and Seoul have stressed would violate international sanctions.

The United States said on the 13th that North Korea has delivered to Russia by train and by ship more than 1,000 containers of military equipment and munition to be used by Moscow in its war in Ukraine.

In addition, the White House released images that allegedly show the transfer of weapons from North Korea to Russia.

Between Sep. 7 and Oct. 1, a set of containers was sent from the North Korean port city of Najin to Russia’s Dunay via ship, according to the White House. EFE
