China’s 2021 average temperature highest in 60 years

Beijing, Jan 2 (EFE).- China’s national average temperature in 2021 was 10.7 degrees Celsius – the highest since 1961, according to the country’s Meteorological agency cited by state media Sunday.

China suffered more extreme weather events than usual last year, according to China Meteorological Administration spokesperson Song Shanyun cited by Xinhua, and these were of stronger intensity and more frequent.

In addition, China’s average annual rainfall stood at 671.3 millimeters, an increase of 6.8 percent, Song said.

The increase in rainfall was especially noticeable in the north of the country, where the second-highest figure in history was recorded at 697.9mm, and which also exceeded the records of recent years by 40.6 percent, Song said.

China also experienced an average of 12 days weather classified as hot in 2021, the second-highest of the last 60 years.

Among the extreme weather events recorded last year, were the summer floods in the central province of Henan, which left more than 300 people dead.

The country also experienced stronger typhoons, dust storms and cold waves last year. EFE
