Djokovic confirms US Open absence over Covid-19 vaccine status

New York, Aug 25 (EFE).- Novak Djokovic on Thursday said he would not “be able” to travel to New York for the upcoming US Open as the Serbian star looks set to miss his second Grand Slam of the year over his Covid-19 vaccine status.

Djokovic, who has won 21 Grand Slams, including three US Opens, has been unable to play in the United States-based ATP competitions this year due to not being vaccinated against Covid-19 and previously missed the Australian Open for the same reason.

“Good luck to my fellow players! I’ll keep in good shape and positive spirit and wait for an opportunity to compete again. See you soon tennis world!” the Serb, currently world No.6, said in a social media post.

The United States currently requires foreign visitors to show proof of vaccination.
