Israeli forces kill dozens of Hamas militants in Gaza

Jerusalem, Jan 31 (EFE).- Israeli forces killed over 25 Hamas militants in northern and central Gaza in the last 24 hours, Israel said on Wednesday.

While 15 Hamas “terrorists” were killed in northern Gaza, over 10 were killed in the central part of the city in less than an hour, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.

In addition, the IDF raided a school used as “a hiding place” for the Islamic Jihad militant group in northern Gaza and arrested 10 militants, according to the statement.

EFE has not been able to verify the claim independently.

The troops searched several buildings in northern Gaza’s Fati Shati area and found weapons, along with documents and military equipment belonging to Hamas, the IDF said.

In southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, now the epicenter of the war, the IDF said it attacked and destroyed a “terrorist squad” in an airstrike.

Israel has lost over 220 soldiers since it began its offensive in Gaza in retaliation for the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on the country.

On Wednesday, Israel confirmed the death of Ran Gvili, an agent who was believed to have been kidnapped from by Hamas on Oct. 7 but was killed during the attack although his body remains missing, according to new intelligence reports.

The Islamic militant group kidnapped over 240 people and killed over 1,100 in its brutal attack on southern Israel, which triggered the Israel-Hamas war in the enclave.

Israel’s military retaliation has killed over 26,750 people, wounded another 65,636 in Gaza and displaced nearly 85 percent of its 2.3 million population. EFE
