Russia continues bombing major Ukrainian cities
Lviv, Ukraine, Mar 11 (EFE).- Russia on Friday continued to bomb major Ukrainian cities with fresh attacks resulting in more fatalities, according to Presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak.
“Ukrainian big cities are again subjected to devastating blows,” tweeted the advisor to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The first detonations took place in the morning in Lutsk, in the northwest of the country, and in Ivano-Frankivsk, some 250 kilometers (155 miles) south, said Podolyak.
Lutsk Mayor Igor Polischuk asked the city’s residents to quickly move to shelters after hearing the first explosions in the city near the aerodrome, about 90 kilometers east of the Polish border.
Polischuk, addressing the people through Facebook, asked them not to publish photos, addresses, or establish coordinates, regarding what could be the first Russian attack on this city.
According to state-owned Ukrinform news agency, two servicemen were killed and six more were wounded as a result of the shelling of the Lutsk military airfield.
“Four missiles were fired on the military airfield in Lutsk from a Russian army bomber as we assess. Unfortunately, there are human losses. At present, two servicemen have been killed and six have received wounds of varying severity,” Head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration Yuriy Pohulyayko said in a video address on Telegram.
The Ukrainian broadcaster ICTV confirmed another three airstrikes at Dnipro in the southern part of the country, where the projectiles fell near a kindergarten, at an apartment building and in a shoe factory, respectively.
State emergency services said on Telegram that the attacks occurred around 6.10 am (4am GMT), and there had been at least one dead, while rescue efforts were underway.
This is the first time that these two cities have been under attack since the Russian invasion of Ukraine started 16 days ago.
On Friday morning, the Russian armed forces also attacked Ivano-Frankivsk, according to Ukrinform.
“Explosions were heard in Frankivsk. The military and the State Emergency Service are working. Details will be released later! React to sirens,” Ivano-Frankivsk Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv posted on Facebook. EFE
