2 die, several missing after landslide washes away 15 vehicles in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Nov 29 (EFE).- Authorities said on Tuesday that a rain-triggered landslide washed away 15 vehicles on a highway in southern Brazil, killing two people and leaving many missing.

The landslide occurred on Monday night on the BR 376 federal highway in Guaratuba, a municipality in the state of Paraná.

The authorities said searchers rescued six people.

Continuous heavy rains have made rescue work difficult, and the authorities said the exact number of deaths and missing persons due to the accident was still uncertain.

The landslide interrupted traffic on the highway in both directions, dragging off the track at least 10 cars and six trucks in a stretch of about 200 meters on the highway.

Traffic on the highway that connects the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina, bordering Argentina, has been interrupted since Monday. EFE
