Man arrested on suspicion of starting fire on Japan bullet train
Tokyo, Nov 8 (EFE).- Japanese police arrested a man on suspicion of starting a fire on a shinkansen bullet train in the south of the country on Monday.
A 69-year-old man from Fukuoka was arrested over the incident inside one of the cars at around 8.40 am on Monday (23:45 GMT Sunday), according to Kyodo news.
No injuries were reported.
The train had been traveling from Kumamoto Station to Shin-Yatsushiro Station in the southwest region of Kyushu, national broadcaster NHK reported.
The suspect allegedly set paper on fire and put it on the floor of the car, which triggered the emergency alarm and stopped the train, NHK added, citing police.
At Shin-Yatsuhiro Station, the man was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson, it reported.
There have since been delays and disruptions to Kyushu shinkansen services.
The incident is the latest in a series on the country’s train and metro networks in recent months that has brought transport safety into question.
Last week on Halloween, a man wearing a Joker costume attacked other passengers and set fire to a flammable liquid inside a train in Tokyo, leaving 17 injured. EFE
