Alisson scores against West Brom, taking Liverpool closer to Champions League

Sports Desk, May 16 (EFE).- A goal by the Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson in stoppage time gave Liverpool victory at The Hawthorns on Sunday against West Bromwich (1-2), bringing them a step closer to the Champions League.

The goalkeeper gave Jurgen Klopp’s team its third win in a row to sit one point behind Chelsea, fourth on the table, which marks the threshold to qualify for the continental competition.

It was in the 96th minute when a corner kick from Trent Alexander Arnold was headed by the unmarked goalkeeper into the net, after which he was mobbed by teammates.

Alisson became the first ever goalkeeper to score for Liverpool, and only the sixth to have scored a goal in Premier League history, the first with a header.

The goal could prove decisive for the future of the red team, who had a hard time finding a way past the relegated West Bromwich, which went ahead on the scoreboard at 15 minutes into play with a goal from Hal Robson-Kanu after a pass from the Brazilian Matheus Pereira.

Liverpool reacted, drawing in the 33rd minute through Mohamed Salah of Egypt after receiving a ball from Senegalese Sadio Mané.

Klopp’s team sought the winning goal in every way it could think of, and although it cornered Sam Allardyce’s side, it couldn’t beat it until the last move of the game.

Alisson’s sensational goal therefore revived Liverpool’s chances of playing the next Champions League. EFE
