Gunman kills 4 in a US hospital campus shooting

Washington, June 1 (EFE).- At least four people were killed and several injured Wednesday in a shooting on a hospital campus in the US city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, police said.

Deputy Police Chief Eric Dalgleish told reporters that the shooter, identified as a black male between 35 to 40 years old, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound before killing four people.

The suspect had a handgun and a long gun, and he fired from both at the Natalie Building on the St. Francis Hospital Campus.

A police statement said agents were still searching the building but did not offer more details about the identities of the victims and the shooter.

“Officers are currently going through every room in the building checking for additional threats,” police said. “We know there are multiple injuries.”

Tulsa police Capt. Richard Meulenberg said multiple people were wounded in the “catastrophic scene” at the Natalie building, which houses an outpatient surgery center and a breast health center.

Police said they did not know the motive of the shooter.

The shooting takes place as the nation is still mourning the massacre of 19 children and two teachers by an 18-year-old shooter at a school in Uvalde, in Texas, on May 24. Police later shot the gunman dead.

US President Joe Biden Tuesday said he would meet members of Congress to discuss stricter gun control norms after the Uvalde shooting, the deadliest in a US school after Sandy Hook, in which 27 people died, in December 2012. EFE jfu/ssk
