Ukraine says Russia regrouping troops to attack in the east

Kyiv, Apr 5 (EFE).- Russia has been regrouping troops and preparing an offensive operation in eastern Ukraine, according to the latest report by the Ukrainian Army on Tuesday, day 41 of the invasion.

The Russians were concentrating on an offensive operation with the aim of establishing total control over the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, said the Ukrainian army.

It added that the withdrawal of troops had been completed and that they were moving to the Russian city of Valuyki in Belgorod region.

It further said there was a movement of arms and military equipment in Belarus, and a large part of the Russian planes and helicopters had been transferred from aerodromes in Belarus to Russia.

Ukraine claimed Russia has been trying to resume offensive operations in Sloviansk, where – according to the army – Moscow has had partial success.

Sloviansk is also in the region of Donetsk, closer to Kharkiv, a city where the Russians continue their artillery bombardment of residential neighborhoods and infrastructure.

In the Donetsk and Lugansk areas, the Russians have been concentrating their efforts on taking control of the Popasna and Rubizhne areas, establishing total control over Mariupol and preparing offensive operations near the Zolota Niva settlement, according to the Ukraine army.

Ukraine also denounced that Russian troops carried out attacks using cluster bombs – prohibited by the Geneva convention – on the town of Nikolaev in the south near the Black Sea coast, in which civilian accommodation and medical facilities, including a children’s hospital, were hit. EFE
