Casillas inaugurates goalie training center in Dubai

Dubai, Sep 8 (EFE).- Spain’s former goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas on Wednesday inaugurated his first goalie training center outside Spain, in Dubai, in association with Fursan Hispania FC.

The Iker Casillas Goalkeeper Training Center aims at “honing the skills of aspiring young goalkeepers from the UAE and the region,” the Dubai Sport Council said in a statement.

“This training centre is like starting a new second life for me,” Casillas, whose sporting career was interrupted by health issues, said at a press conference.

“I have always dreamt of giving back to this sport, which has given me everything, and I have always wanted to open a training centre dedicated to goalkeeping,” said Casillas, who was part of the Spain squad that took the 2010 FIFA World Cup title.

Although the main focus will be “creating goalkeepers,” the Real Madrid icon insisted that the center aims “to develop good human beings because that is the most important thing.”

The center will offer a weekly programme for the Gulf players, a goalkeeping coach programme focused on the Middle East; and a separate programme for the goalkeepers of Fursan.

The Fursan Hispania will scout for talents in the region to train at the Iker Casillas Academy in Madrid. EFE
