Simone Biles to compete in balance beam final

Tokyo, Aug 2 (EFE).- Simone Biles will take part in the balance beam final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Tuesday.

The US athlete, a four-time Olympic champion and widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, has withdrawn from five other events at the Games so far due to mental health issues.

The US Federation said that it was “excited to confirm” that two US gymnasts — “Suni Lee and Simone Biles” — would compete in the final.

Biles dropped out of last Tuesday’s team final after performing only one exercise. She has pulled out of all other events since then, saying she needed to protect her mental health.

The beam will conclude the women’s artistic gymnastics program in Tokyo on Tuesday.

Biles won the bronze medal on the apparatus at Rio 2016, along with the gold medals in team, all-around, floor and vault. EFE
