USCIS Offers ONLINE Filing of Certain Applications

USCIS offers several forms to be filed online at https://www.uscis.gov/file-online/forms-available-to-file-online.  We have reported on many occasions that USCIS is encouraging Applicants to utilize online filing for many reasons, of which one reason is USCIS Officers are moving towards handling less paper files and more digital files when they interview Applicants for benefits.  So please refer to the link above for details on how to file online with USCIS.

At the interview, the USCIS Officer will still ask questions from your application and allow corrections to be made to the answers on your application if you made an innocent error.  USCIS is waiting to catch you making an intentional misrepresentation that demonstrate a lack of good moral character.  Whether you file an application online or on paper shouldn’t change how your interview will be conducted.

There is a requirement for each non-US Citizen to notify USCIS of any change of address.   The Form AR-11 can be completed online or on paper mailed to USCIS so that USCIS can communicate with you by mail.  You are required to provide this change of address within 10 days of moving. USCIS will allow you to renew your green card or replace your lost green card by filing an I-90 Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card.  Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) | USCIS.  Beginning in January 2021, if you are applying to renew your Green Card, your Form I-90 receipt notice (also known as  Form I-797) will say the following and can be used with your expired Green Card as evidence of your lawful permanent resident status:

This notice provides evidence of your lawful permanent resident status for 12 months from the expiration date on your Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card). You remain authorized to work and travel. This notice, presented with your expired Permanent Resident Card, is evidence of your status and work authorization.

USCIS is also allowing I-130 petitions to be filed online, if you choose.  Petition for Alien Relative | USCIS

Another Application that can be filed online, if you choose, is an I-539 Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status.   Application To Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status | USCIS.

Many people who must renew their work permission cards annually, you may not be able to file your EAD – Application for Employment authorization card yet. Application for Employment Authorization | USCIS.   But if you file under one of these categories, you can file online electronically.  (c)(3)(A) – Pre-completion OPT;  (c)(3)(B) – Post-completion OPT;  (c)(3)(C) – 24-month extension for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students; or  (a)(12) – Temporary Protected Status (You are submitting an initial Form I-821 or you have an approved Form I-821).

The website allows for online initial filings for TPS from Burma, Haiti, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.  Application for Temporary Protected Status | USCIS

The link also can take you to the how to file online for the following applications:  an N-400 Application for Naturalization, N-336 Request for a Hearing on a decision Denying an N-400 under INA 336.  You can file Form N-565 Application for Replacement Naturalization / Citizenship document as well as the N-600/I-600K Application for Certificate of Citizenship.
