Pyongyang regime finalizes 2022 resolution

Seoul, Dec 31 (EFE).- North Korea’s sole party has reviewed the resolution to be published at the closing of the plenary meeting being held in Pyongyang, and which is expected to include the regime’s diplomatic strategy for 2022, state media reported Friday.

The fourth day of the plenary meeting held by the eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party, held on Thursday, served to “put together constructive opinions to be added to a draft resolution and had final examination of them,” KCNA and Rodong Sinmun reported.

The brief notices published by both outlets said the sectional workshops and consultative sessions that began on the third day of the plenary session have concluded.

Although details on these workshops have not been expanded on, on Wednesday KCNA published photos of one of these meetings chaired by Kim Yong-chol, head of the United Front Department (a body focused on espionage and relations with South Korea), and Foreign Minister Ri Son-gwon.

This suggests that nuclear negotiations and inter-Korean relations will be included in the final resolution.

The North Korean state media only added that “the meeting continues,” which suggests that the event will conclude Friday and that the resolution could be made public on Saturday.

This plenary meeting will serve to outline the diplomatic and economic policy of the regime for 2022 at a time when the country is experiencing hardships due to the weight of sanctions and the extreme isolation it has chosen to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, and after rejecting Washington’s offers to resume denuclearization talks.

Kim is expected to deliver a speech at the end of this appointment, around the New Year, in which a message is expected for South Korea, which has proposed to sign a declaration to end the Korean War, and the United States, whom Kim has accused this year of maintaining a “hostile policy” that prevents rapprochement.
