Shelby County Schools Announce New Interim Superintendent
MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/WMC) — Las escuelas del condado de Shelby anunciaron un nuevo superintendente interino el miércoles por la noche.
La Junta de SCS eligió al Dr. Joris Ray, quien actualmente es el superintendente asistente de operaciones.
También votaron que el superintendente interino puede ser considerado para el puesto permanente.
Ray venció a otros dos candidatos, la ex superintendenteescolar de la ciudad de Memphis, la Dra. Carol Johnson y el actual director financiero de SCS, el Dr. Linn Johnson.
Él asumirá su nuevo rol en algún momento a principios de enero.
Una cosa en su lista es una recomendación que su ex jefe ha puesto ahora a su cargo.
El martes, Dorsey Hopson recomendó reducir el distrito cerrando o consolidando 28 escuelas y construyendo 10 nuevas.

MEMPHIS, TN(WMC) — Shelby County Schools announced a new interim superintendent Wednesday night.
The SCSBoard chose Dr. Joris Ray, who is currently the assistant superintendent of operations.
They also voted that the interim superintendent can be considered for the permanent position.
Ray beatout two other nominees, former Memphis City school superintendent Dr. Carol Johnson and current SCS chief financial officer Dr. Linn Johnson.
He will step in his new role sometime in early January.
One thing on his list is a recommendation that his former boss has now laid in his lap.
Tuesday, Dorsey Hopson recommended shrinking the district by closing or consolidating 28 schools and building 10 new ones.
Ray wouldn’t say if he supports the plan just yet.
He started his career in the classroom as a teacher at Kirby Middle. Ray has spent the past 20 years moving up the ranks within the school system.
The board showed confidence that Ray could lead the district.
On the election of new interim superintendent, SCS board member McCormick said,“unlike other boards in this city we were able to do this in one round!”
