North Korea launches four short-range missiles into the Yellow Sea

Seoul, Nov 5 (EFE).- North Korea launched four short-range ballistic missiles into the Yellow Sea on Saturday, according to the South Korean army.

This latest provocation coincides with large-scale joint air exercises by South Korea and the United States.

The launches were detected between 11.32am and 11.59am from the northwestern Tongrim County, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

The missiles flew some 130 kilometers with a peak height of 20 and a top speed of Mach 5 – five times the speed of sound -, JCS added after North Korea launched around 30 projectiles between Wednesday and Thursday.

The latest missile launch from Pyongyang comes after Washington and Seoul decided to extend their Vigilant storm joint drills, involving some 240 aircraft, until Saturday.

This is the largest combined air exercise in South Korea and the US since 2017 and includes the mobilization of F-15, F-16, EA-18G – the F-18 version of the fighter fighter aircraft adapted for electronic warfare scenarios -, F-35A and F-35B fighters.

Tension on the peninsula is reaching unprecedented heights in the face of repeated North Korean weapons tests, allied maneuvers, and the possibility that – as the satellites indicate – the Kim Jong-un may conduct its first nuclear test since 2017. EFE
