MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Chris Carmicle fue reportado como desaparecido en el 2007; su madre Tommye Wilder recuerda que, semanas después de las celebraciones de Acción de Gracias, lo reportaron a la policía. La Familia Wilder fue a revisar el carro Chevrolet Cavalier, propiedad de Chris, en el corralón de la policía -el vehículo fue descubierto enfrente de una casa abandonada en el vecindario de Frayser. Con una llave extra que tenían se acercaron al carro pero no pudieron abrir la cajuela, así que decidieron mover el asiento trasero del vehículo para revisar a fondo la cajuela. Fue ahí donde descubrieron el cuerpo sin vida de Chris Carmicle, desnudo y con disparos de arma de fuego. Lo que sorprendió más a la familia es que el carro llevaba semanas en el corralón de la policía sin ser revisado a fondo ya que, si no se reclama el vehículo, éste se subasta o se tritura como chatarra.

El reciente incidente de Bardomiano Pérez Hernández, originario de Oaxaca, México, y quien fuera descubierto por la otra víctima del intento de robo en el vecindario de Binghampton -curiosamente no tan lejos de la estación de policía- dentro del vehículo incautado por la policía 7 semanas después de permanecer en el corralón oficial y sin que los peritos oficiales o agentes que tomaron el caso se molestaran en revisar el vehículo, le trajo malos recuerdos a la familia de Chris Carmicle.

En el intento de robo, Pablo Castor recibió 4 impactos de bala, resultando herido en el cuello, la clavícula, el abdomen y la pierna. Además, tuvo una lesión en la arteria carótida, lo que le provocó un derrame cerebral.

Actualmente, la familia de Castor solicita ayuda a la comunidad, ya que Pablo era el único soporte económico que tenían.

Su camioneta aún no ha sido entregada a la familia, debido a que la policía sigue investigando el caso. También se busca a una tercera persona, Florencio Pérez, quien trabajaba junto a Castor y Bardomiano, para que testifique en contra de los responsables.

Ambos casos de personas fallecidas encontradas en vehículos incautados representan una falta de profesionalismo por parte de las autoridades locales, por lo que Mike Rallings, director de la Policía de Memphis (MPD, por sus siglas en inglés), mencionó que aplicará las medidas disciplinarias para los responsables directos del caso y no descansará hasta llegar al fondo de todo esto. El director de la Asociación de Policías, Mike Williams, también culpa a la falta de policías en las calles de Memphis.

Lo cierto es que el caso ya se cubrió nacionalmente en varias publicaciones, dando mucho material para debatir a activistas y otros sectores de la población local.

Muchos dicen que cómo se puede hablar de falta de personal uniformado, cuando se pudo proteger a los integrantes de la derecha extrema el día de su visita después de remover el monumento de Nathan Forest -siendo que aún no se puede ver el capítulo final de la batalla legal del parque. Otro aspecto señalado por los activistas es la situación actual dentro de la cual se mueven cotidianamente los inmigrantes en la ciudad, ya sea por el temor a ser transferidos a la agencia ICE o simplemente por tener que lidiar, con desconfianza, con el Departamento de Policía de Memphis. Esto haría que Florencio Pérez, un testigo potencial del crimen del cual Hernández y Castor fueron víctimas, no se acerque a testificar por temor.

Lo cierto es que para recuperar la confianza en la policía, por parte no sólo de la comunidad latina sino de otros sectores que se sienten marginados y a veces hostigados, los líderes de la ciudad tendrán que hacer más que apariciones de relaciones públicas en eventos comunitarios; deberán acercarse con genuino interés por el bienestar de la población.

Volviendo al caso de Bardomiano Pérez Hernández, ya hay dos detenidos: Mardracus West y Earl Brown, quienes fueron acusados de asesinato en primer grado. También hay un tercer sospechoso que sigue en la fuga, pero que la policía hará hasta lo imposible por arrestarlo.

La exesposa de Bardomiano o “Bardo”, como lo llamaban sus familiares y amigos, lo describe como el típico inmigrante que viene a estos rumbos a trabajar duro, a cuidar a su familia y para buscar la forma de salir adelante.

El bufete de abogados Horne and Wells anunció que está representando a la familia de Bardomiano Hernández.

Precisamente, Horne y Wells dieron a conocer el martes, 13 de febrero, nuevos detalles concernientes a la investigación sobre Hernández.

Indicaron que Bardomiano recibió un disparo en el abdomen, y por experiencia se sabe que posiblemente haya sobrevivido durante horas, si no días en la camioneta. Eso significa que posiblemente haya agonizado solo en la oscuridad y el frío invernal dentro de esa camioneta.

Curiosamente, la casa donde su exesposa vive no está lejos del corralón de la policía.

Al menos 5 funcionarios firmaron la boleta del corralón para el vehículo en el cual Bardomiano fue descubierto: 2 oficiales de policía, 2 investigadores de la escena del crimen y el chofer de la grúa que llevó el vehículo al corralón de la policía.

Hablaron sobre la hija de Bardomiano, Claudi Morales, una pequeña de dos años presente en el retrato durante la conferencia de prensa.

Murray Wells, uno de los abogados indicó que Memphis tiene un excelente Centro Médico de Traumatología que salvó a Pablo Castor, el conductor de la camioneta; pero fue algo que se le negó a Bardomiano al ser abandonado en el vehículo del crimen.

Aún no se recibe el reporte médico, pero la posibilidad de que Bardomiano haya estado sufriendo por horas o días durante el frío y dentro de la camioneta hace pensar en un muy serio problema para los diferentes funcionarios responsables de revisar el vehículo.

Wells espera que la administración realice los ajustes necesarios para solucionar el problema, nombrando y disciplinando a los responsables. Él espera que la administración de la ciudad muestre respeto y prosiga de forma adecuada con la investigación.

La firma planea buscar compensación monetaria para la familia, pero enfatizaron que la justicia es de suma importancia en este momento.

La firma de abogados presentó su reciente incorporación al caso, después de esperar que el gobierno de la ciudad anunciara alguna condolencia o servicios a la familia, sin que éste se manifestara.

En una entrevista telefónica con La Prensa Latina, el director de la policía, Mike Rallings, agradeció toda la cooperación que la comunidad hispana ha aportado para poder resolver este crimen.

Rallings también anunció un esfuerzo sin igual en lo que respecta todo el proceso de búsqueda de evidencias en vehículos. Habló de una transformación que asegurará que no se repita un caso similar al de Hernández, empezando con una revisión de prácticas y pólizas y reportando cada cambio de forma inmediata. Después de terminada la investigación, definitivamente se estará haciendo una revisión completa y habrá un entrenamiento necesario dentro de los protocolos de investigación.

Al tiempo de la entrevista aún no se liberaba el reporte forense de Bardomiano.

Se espera repatriar al cuerpo de Bardomiano a su natal Oaxaca.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Tommye Wilder recalls the week after Thanksgiving 2007 when her son, Chris Carmicle, was reported missing.

The Wilder family went to check the Chevrolet Cavalier car owned by Chris at the police station – the vehicle was discovered in front of an abandoned house in the Frayser neighborhood.

With an extra key that they had, they approached the car but could not open the trunk, so they decided to move the back seat of the vehicle to thoroughly check the trunk. It was there that they discovered the naked body of Chris Carmicle naked with gunshots. What surprised the family the most is that he had been in the police impound for weeks, as the car was not thoroughly checked – if the vehicle is not claimed, it is auctioned or shredded as scrap.

The recent incident of Bardomiano Pérez Hernández, originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, and who was discovered by the other victim of attempted theft in the Binghampton neighborhood – curiously not so far from the police station – inside the vehicle seized by the police 7 weeks after being in the impound lot, brought back bad memories to Chris Carmicle’s family.

In the attempted robbery, Pablo Castor was wounded with 4 bullet wounds, resulting in wounds to the neck, collarbone, abdomen and leg. In addition, he had a carotid artery injury, which caused him to have a stroke.

Currently, Castor’s family is asking for help from the community, as Pablo was the only financial support they had.

His vehicle has not yet been delivered to the family, as the case is still under investigation by the police. MPD is also looking for a third person, Florencio Pérez, who worked with Castor and Bardomiano, so he can testify against those who committed the crime.

Both cases of deceased persons found in seized vehicles represent a lack of professionalism on the part of local authorities, for which MPD’s Director Mike Rallings said that he will apply the disciplinary measures to those who are directly responsible for the case and will not rest until he gets to the bottom of all of this. The Director of the Police Association, Mike Williams, also blames the lack of policemen on the streets of Memphis.

The truth is that the case has already been covered nationally in several publications, giving a lot of material for debate to activists and other sectors of the local population.

Many say that how one can speak of lack of personnel, when the members of the extreme right could be protected on the day of their visit after removing the Nathan Forest monument. Another aspect pointed out by activists is the immigrants’ current situation in the city/country, as some of them are afraid of being detained by ICE or even going to the Police Department to report a crime. Indeed, fear could be a reason for Florencio Pérez, a potential witness of the crime of which Hernández and Castor were victims, not to show up and testify.

The truth is that in order to regain trust in the police, not only from the Latino community but from other sectors that feel marginalized and sometimes harassed, city leaders will have to do more than public relations appearances at community events; they should approach with genuine interest for the welfare of the people.

Back to the case of Bardomiano Pérez Hernández, there are already two detainees: Mardracus West and Earl Brown, who habe been accused of first degree murder. There is also a third suspect who remains at large, but the police will do everything possible to arrest him.

Bardomiano’s ex-wife describes him as the typical immigrant who comes to the U.S. to work hard, to take care of his family and to find a way to have a better life.

The Horne and Wells law firm announced this week that they are representing Bardomiano’s family.

Horne and Wells released on Tuesday, February 13, new details concerning the investigation. They indicated that Bardomiano was shot in the abdomen, and from experience it is known that he may have survived for hours, if not days in the truck.

At least 5 officials signed the ticket for the vehicle where Bardomiano’s body was found: 2 police officers, 2 investigators of the crime scene, and the driver of the tow truck that took the vehicle to the police impound.

The attorneys spoke about Bardomiano’s daughter, Claudi Morales, a two-year-old small girl in the portrait shown during the press conference.

Murray Wells, one of the lawyers indicated that Memphis has an excellent Medical Center of Traumatology that saved Pablo Castor, the driver of the truck. However, this is something that was denied to Bardomiano who was left in the vehicle.

The medical report is not available yet, but the possibility that Bardomiano has been suffering for hours or days during the cold and inside the van suggests a very serious problem for the different officials responsible for checking the vehicle.

Wells expects the administration to make the necessary adjustments to solve the problem, appointing and disciplining those responsible.

He expects the city administration to show respect and to continue adequately with the investigation.

The firm plans to seek monetary compensation for the family, but they emphasized that justice is of the utmost importance at this time.

The law firm presented its recent incorporation to the case after waiting for the city government to announce some sympathy or services to the family.

In an interview with La Prensa Latina, Director Mike Rallings thanked the Hispanic community for their cooperation in solving this crime.

Rallings also announced an unparalleled effort in regards to the seized vehicles and the searching process. He spoke of a transformation that will ensure that a case similar to that of Hernández is not repeated, starting with a review of practices and policies and reporting each change immediately. After the investigation is finished, a full review will be done and there will be a necessary training within the research protocols.

At the time of the interview, the forensic report of Bardomiano was not yet released.

It is expected to repatriate Bardomiano’s body to his native Oaxaca, Mexico.
