Test of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System

(LPL/FEMA) — La Agencia Federal para el Manejo de Emergencias planea enviar un mensaje a todos los teléfonos celulares de los Estados Unidos hoy para probar un sistema de alerta que avise a las personas en caso de una emergencia nacional. El mensaje se etiquetará como “Alerta presidencial” y los teléfonos emitirán un tono alto y emitirán una vibración especial. El mensaje de prueba, programado para 1:18 p.m. CDT hoy, se leerá: “ESTA ES UNA PRUEBA del Sistema Nacional de Alerta de Emergencia Inalámbrica. No se necesita ninguna acción “. La prueba se ha programado para garantizar que el sistema de alerta funcione en caso de una emergencia nacional. Los usuarios de teléfonos celulares en Estados Unidos no podrán optar por no participar.

(FEMA) —The Federal Emergency Management Agency plans to send a message to all US cellphones today to test an alert system that would warn people in the event of a national emergency. The message will be labeled “Presidential Alert,” and phones will emit a loud tone and make a special vibration.  The test message, scheduled for 1:18 p.m. CDT today, will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”  The test has been scheduled to ensure that the alert system would work in the event of a national emergency. U.S. cellphone users will not be able to opt out.
