New talent takes center stage at Colombiamoda
Medellin, Colombia, Jul 28 (EFE).- New talent shone on the runway of the 33rd edition of Colombiamoda-Colombiatex 2022 with an aesthetic vision that broke stereotypes and presented new ways of seeing the future and designs full of strength, personality and technology.
The year-long efforts of design students saw the light of day on the runways of Latin America’s biggest fashion and textile trade shows, which ended Thursday.
The “Natuverso” collection by the University de Medellin showed a mix of the “metaverse and nature” with an exploration of beauty that emerged from a mixture of the technological and the organic.
“It’s a small display of all the passion these young people have. They have many dreams, enthusiasm and talent,” Tatiana Unibio, coordinator of the university’s Fashion and Textile Design and Management program, told EFE.
With a new “other-worldly” aesthetic and the use of prints that bordered on the surreal, the designs came to life with sea skins and twilight flowers and and virtual, space-inspired graphics.
Design student Sandra Duque presented a colorful and innovative children’s line that captivated the audience.
“I was inspired by a happy and free childhood. I looked for the children to be able to put their drawings on the clothing,” she told EFE.
Sara Mesa Giraldo, on the other hand, displayed a “more unreal and futuristic” world with the use of outfits made from sequins, veils and lace that took a month to make since 60 percent of them were handmade.
One of her creations broke stereotypes with another proposal.
“Its not always a woman who rocks a high fashion outfit; we wanted to show something different with an androgen model,” she said.
The “Huellas” collection by 12 students of graphic design, animation and music production at the Salazar and Herrera University Institution presented an augmented reality experience, while also touching on the social fabric, inclusion and human experiences.
“Diseno + Talento” by Pontifical Bolivarian University students presented clothing revolving around the themes of self-love and female empowerment. Denim was also used to propose alternatives in a sustainable and free world. EFE
